There can be no debate about the fact that any form of activity not only frees
the spirit but also develops character and leadership. We have formed a number
of clubs in our school and students are encouraged to actively participate in
our school clubs to have the opportunity for holistic development.
Maths
Club
The Maths Club at St. Andrews works to enhance the logical and the reasoning
abilities of the students. The activities of this club pave the way for students
to forgo their 'Maths phobia'. This club has generated a lot of interest and
enthusiasm amongst all our students. The students have been divided into 5
groups – Shakuntla Devi, Ramanujam, Bhaskaracharya, Leelavati and Aryabhatta.
The students try out many puzzles, mathematical riddles and games to enhance
their reasoning abilities. Latest trends like Abacus and Vedic Mathematics are
discussed and practised.
Scrabble
Club
Scrabble is a popular word game and board game in which 2-4 players
score points by forming words from individual lettered tiles. At St. Andrews we
have a Scrabble Club comprising of 120 active players selected from Class VII
and IX. The Scrabble club meets thrice a week, on every Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday. Scrabble Club holds competitions in school and they are being trained by
members of "The Scrabble Club of India". The Scrabble Club has students who
prefer indoor games to outdoor games and would like to enhance their vocabulary.
Calligraphy Club
Calligraphy
means "beautiful writing." Calligraphy can be both a delight to the eye and an
inspiration to the spirit. Calligraphy is an art form in which patience and
attention to details is more important than artistic talent. It is a mental
exercise that coordinates the mind and the body to choose the best styling in
expressing the content of the passage. The Calligraphy club of St. Andrews was
started keeping in mind the deteriorating handwriting of the present generation.
This club has attracted a lot of enthusiastic, creative and artistic students
not only to improve their handwriting but also add a lot colour and spirit to
otherwise mundane words. We have above 60 strong budding calligraphers who meet
every Thursday afternoon under the supervision of a trained and talented
teacher.
Quiz
Club
For those Andrewites who find quizzing exciting and challenging, the school
welcomes them to its Quiz Club. This club provides its members with the latest
reference books and encyclopedias, CDs and internet browsing facility, etc. They
visit the British Library regularly to gather information and update their
knowledge.
Our quiz enthusiasts have participated in state and national level quiz
competitions and won almost all of them hands-down. St. Andrews has fared well
in a few international events also. The Quiz Club comprises of around 50
students, who have been selected from classes VI-X after a screening test
conducted by the Teacher-in-Charge.
Literary Club
The objective of the school Literary Club is to encourage literary pursuits
amongst the students, be it in the form of creative writing, poetic ventures,
dramatics, reading sessions, debating, linguistic skill, etc. The club organizes
a 'Class Magazine Contest' which is a major event in their busy literary
calendar. Students present their class activities, articles, poems, drawings,
craft, etc. and compile them into a booklet. The magazine with the most
informative and entertaining content, attractive cover, artistic illustrations
and lucid presentation is declared the winner. In the Dramatics competition, the
participants are assessed for their choice of theme, acting abilities, dialogue
delivery, clarity of pronunciation, props, costumes, stage presentation, etc.
Some budding playwrights even write their own plays for the occasion making us
doubly proud!
